Since the Center for Community Foundation Policy Leadership launched a year ago, we’ve been helping community foundations understand their specific policy leadership potential and how to successfully engage - from any starting point, within any political environment. Among the highlights were...
July - October 2022: Served as lead drafter of the Council on Foundations’ & CFLeads’ Practice & Purpose of Policy Training for Community Foundation Leaders (presented in February 2023)
November: Officially launched the Center for Community Foundation Policy Leadership, with partnership support from the Community Foundation Awareness Initiative.
December 2022 – Present: Engaged in direct conversations with 50+ community foundations of all sizes from across the country, about their experiences, hopes, and needs for effective approaches to policy leadership in their specific communities.
January 2023 - Began moderating the 2023 bi-monthly Policy & Advocacy Group discussions for the Community Foundation Opportunity Network.
April 2023 - Conducted a three-day assessment and extensive report for the Greater Cincinnati Foundation on recommended next steps for successful policy leadership.
May 2023 - Presented remarks at board dinner preceding pivotal strategic planning session for the Gulf Coast Community Foundation.
June 2023 - Led board retreat for a major community foundation, exploring the importance of policy leadership to protect investments and community strength in a highly politicized environment.
Ongoing: Hosted monthly “Expert Perspectives” webinars on community foundation policy leadership with guests including the:
- Director of the Justice Center at the Council of State Governments;
- Vice President of Camoin Associates Economic Development Consulting;
- Policy Director of the Innocence Project;
- Director of Civic Advancement at the Greater Cincinnati Foundation;
- Senior Program Director for Diversity, Equity & Inclusion for the National Association of Counties;
- Chief of Staff to Harris County Commissioner Rodney Ellis;
- Hearty engagement from community foundation policy staff and leadership.
